The 14th Command of Air Force and Air Defence covers the vast Central Military District — the strategic depth of Russia. It hosts many MiG-31 interceptors (Shagol, Kansk, Perm) that guard the enormous airspace, plus forward bases in Central Asia.

Role
The Central MD acts as a strategic reserve and transit area: units can be shifted from here to the western or eastern theatre. The heavy concentration of MiG-31 underlines the defensive interception role over sparsely populated, vast areas.
